“The name ‘A Moon in the Dark’ is meant to signify that this website and anything I do is intended not to call attention to me but to the real source of joy, strength and hope. My desire is to point people to God’s heart, like the moon reflects the sun’s light.

I love inspiring people to turn on their inner skeptic and consider for themselves the abundant evidence for the truth of the claims of the biblical narrative. God has comforted and encouraged me by his Word through many ups and downs in life and I want to offer that comfort and encouragement to others.  He has used me despite and even through my weaknesses.

My heart is to show people that the biblical texts are not only reliable, but they are living and active, and their truths make all the difference in our purpose, identity and hope. It makes me happy to connect people with the love and hope of God the Father through his Word and connect people with resources to help them on their journey.”

After graduating from Vanderbilt with a major in Spanish and minors in music and communication studies, Ellen went on to get her masters in learning disabilities and behavior disorders from North Carolina State University.

Her teaching career has taken her to various settings, including an inner-city public high school, an Episcopal boarding school, a Christian day school, and a bit of homeschool. She has taught at every level, from elementary to high school, teaching typical students, gifted students, and those with learning disabilities and behavior disorders.

Her volunteer work has centered on middle and high school students for over 30 years. Her work has included small group discipleship groups, weekend retreats, mission trips, summer camping and women’s Bible studies.

Ellen had the opportunity to research and write a high-school apologetics Bible curriculum using videos from Impact 360.  This experience filled her with even more passion to share the knowledge of the evidence that exists for the existence of God, the reliability of the New Testament, and the resurrection and divinity of Jesus.

She enjoys authentic conversations, paddle boarding, biking, and playing games with her family and friends. She loves experimenting with watercolors, nature photography, and arranging flowers as well as getting to practicing her Spanish and lead worship from time to time. She likes to read actual newspapers made of paper, historical fiction, fantasy fiction and the occasional spy novel.  Ellen and her husband live in the Atlanta area. They have three grown sons and a beautiful daughter-in-law: Daniel and Mary Wade, John, and David.
